ELIGIBILITY
Students must...
1. Self identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer…or anywhere within the LGBTQ+ “family.”
2. A resident of the state of Louisiana at the time of application.
3. Seventeen years old, or older, by May 1st of the award year.
4. Applying to attend (or currently attending) an accredited post-secondary educational institution.
DEADLINE
The deadline to submit applications for the PFLAG New Orleans Scholarship is Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 8:00 PM CDT.

ESSAY QUESTIONS
The essay questions required for the application are available below. You may begin writing your essays in advance and will be able to paste your responses directly into the application form.
TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTAL
Applicants are required to submit official transcripts from the institution they are currently attending. It is essential to ensure that these transcripts are received by the Friday, January 30th, 2026.
To avoid any delays, applicants are strongly encouraged to request their transcripts as early as possible, well in advance of the deadline. If you are enrolled in a college or university, you should use the institution’s designated process to request your transcript. For high school students, a counselor can typically provide the necessary transcript.

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION SUBMITTAL
Applicants for the PFLAG New Orleans scholarship are required to provide two letters of recommendation. Each letter must be written by an individual who is at least 18 years old. Examples of references could be a family member, friend, chosen relative, professor, or another significant individual in the applicant's life. All reference letters must be uploaded through the PFLAG New Orleans website- 2026 Letters of Recommendation page no later than Friday, January 30th, 2026.
IDENTIFYING DOCUMENTS
You will be required to upload a current photo of yourself and your Government or State ID for proof of Louisiana residency when submitting the application.
AWARD RECEPTION
The PFLAG New Orleans Scholarship Reception is scheduled for Saturday May 9th, 2026, and will take place in Downtown New Orleans, Louisiana. This event will feature special guests and will include food and celebrations to honor the scholarship recipients and their achievements.
