Alaiyia Remembers how she felt when she attended the 2017 PFLAG New Orleans Scholarship Reception:
“Timid by nature, I was so nervous when I arrived at UNO’s campus. When I walked into the event, I was greeted and treated so kindly! I had always felt as though I was a lone soul, attempting to fight through a system that did not see or value me as a human being. To witness a room full of aspiring students and talent, all of whom were of the LGBTQIA+ community, was awe-inspiring. I was overwhelmed with emotion as the Gay Men’s Chorus sang. I had finally felt a true belonging. It was right out of a movie!”
