REQUIREMENTS
You must be
- Self identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer…or anywhere within the LGBTQ “family.”
- A resident of the state of Louisiana at the time of application.
- Seventeen years old, or older, by April 15th of the award year.
- Applying to attend (or currently attending) an accredited post-secondary educational institution.
- Award recipients must be present at the awards ceremony.
- Awards are paid jointly to the student and the institution and are meant primarily for tuition and fees. Under no circumstances will the award be paid only to the student.

Grades matter, but your story is equally important. The essay questions provide an opportunity to showcase your voice, experiences, and goals to the scholarship selection committee. Make it personal and share how your challenges and accomplishments have shaped you.
Have you made a positive difference in the lives of others, whether in your family, community or school? The committee would like to know about your accomplishments in your activities. Please provide sufficient background information so that the committee will understand what you have accomplished.
The scholarship committee realizes that you may be providing very personal information and the information you provide will be kept confidential.
2025 New Applicants Essay Questions

Each essay question has a 200-500 word limit.
1. Describe your involvement with PFLAG, a GSA or any other LGBTQ+ organizations. What have you learned or gained from these experiences? Examples: Attending support groups, volunteering, or participating in events. (500 word limit)
2. Tell us about your work experience (paid or unpaid, including volunteer work). What skills or lessons have you gained? (500 word limit)
3. What are your hobbies or extracurricular activities? Choose one activity and explain how it has shaped or affected your life. (500 word limit)
4. Where do you see yourself in 10 years, and what steps are you taking to achieve this? (500 word limit)
5. What achievement or accomplishment are you most proud of? (500 word limit)
6. How has your identity as a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender person influenced your life and experiences? (500 word limit)
7. Is there anything else you'd like to share with us? (200 word limit)
